The Green Door
Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and protect your information — including your CCPA/CPRA and GDPR rights.
Last updated: August 25, 2026
1. Who We Are & What This Covers
The Green Door is a cultural hospitality marketplace and verification directory operated by Green Door Industries LLC (“The Green Door,” “we,” “us”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the rights you have over it — including specific rights for California residents (CCPA/CPRA) and for individuals in the EEA and UK (GDPR/UK GDPR). One policy, one place to look.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 From consumers and travelers
- Account details: name, email, and (optionally) phone number.
- Saved listings, preferences, searches, and messages sent through the platform.
- Device, browser, IP address, general (city-level) location, and basic usage analytics.
- Community content you create in the mobile app: posts, comments, reviews, profile photos, gallery images, and optional social handles. Profile photos are not government ID and we do not collect government-issued ID from travelers or members.
- Location you choose or allow on your device so we can show nearby businesses, events, and stays (when-in-use only).
- Reports you submit about content or users, and your block list.
- Crash and diagnostic information used to keep the app reliable.
2.2 From businesses, hosts & owners who apply for verification
- Business name, contact details, listing content, logos, and images.
- Documents submitted to prove identity, registration, and ownership (e.g., government ID, articles of organization, ownership records) — see the Host & Business Verification Framework for the full checklist.
- For the optional Black-Owned badge only: a business owner’s voluntary self-identification, provided by choice, solely to obtain that badge.
3. How We Use Information
We use personal information to operate and improve the platform, create and secure accounts, review and maintain business verification, display listings and badges, respond to requests, send service and (with consent where required) marketing communications, detect fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations. We do not make legally or similarly significant decisions about consumers using solely automated processing.
- Moderate user-generated content, review reports, and enforce our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.
4. Sensitive Information & Voluntary Self-Identification
Race and ethnicity are “sensitive personal information” under California law and “special category” data under the GDPR. We collect a business owner’s racial/ethnic self-identification only when that owner voluntarily provides it, on an explicit opt-in basis, to apply for the optional Black-Owned badge. We use it only to evaluate and display that badge — never to make decisions about consumer access, never for advertising, and never to condition access to the broader platform. Businesses of every race remain free to list, and to seek the separate Allied badge. You may withdraw this self-identification (and request deletion) at any time, which will end the badge.
5. How We Share Information
- Vendors who host our infrastructure, send communications, or help review documents, under contracts requiring them to protect the data.
- Publicly displayed business listing content and badge status — this is the point of being listed.
- When required by law, to respond to lawful requests, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the platform.
- In connection with a merger, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
6. Bookings Happen Off-Platform
The Green Door is a directory and verification layer. We do not take reservations, process payments, or hold funds. Any booking or transaction is made directly between you and a business, governed by that business’s own privacy practices, not this Policy.
- In the mobile app, ticket links and lodging booking links open a partner or third-party website. Checkout happens outside The Green Door.
7. Cookies & Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand platform usage. You can control cookies through browser settings. Where required, we honor recognized opt-out preference signals (such as Global Privacy Control).
- The mobile app uses first-party analytics and crash reporting to improve the product. We do not use your data for cross-app advertising tracking.
8. Data Retention & Security
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here or as required by law, then delete or de-identify it. Verification documents are retained only as long as needed to support active verification and reasonable recordkeeping. We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, though no system is perfectly secure.
8.1 Account deletion
You can permanently delete your Green Door account in the mobile app under Settings → Delete Account, or on the web at https://greendoorindustries.com/delete-account. Sign in on that page with the same email and password you use in the app. Both use the same deletion process. When you delete your account, we remove your account record and associated personal data from our primary systems, including your community posts and comments, subject to limited retention needed for legal, security, or operational purposes (for example, records related to moderated abuse). Listings you owned may remain available to travelers with ownership unlinked from your deleted account.
If you cannot sign in, email privacy@greendoorindustries.com from the address on the account and ask us to delete it.
9. Your Privacy Rights
This section combines your rights so there is one place to find them, organized by where you live.
9.1 California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)
To exercise these rights, contact us using Section 12 below. We verify identity before responding, respond within the timeframes required by law (generally 45 days, extendable once when reasonably necessary), and permit use of an authorized agent. We honor recognized opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control.
Note: personal information of individuals under 16 is treated as sensitive under current California rules. The Green Door is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to minors.
- Right to know — the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold, and how we use and disclose it.
- Right to delete — request deletion, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; if that changes, we will provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control first.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information — you may direct us to limit use of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to provide the service you requested. We already do this by design: the voluntary Black-Owned self-identification is used only to provide the badge.
- Right to non-discrimination — we will not deny service, charge different prices, or provide lesser service because you exercised your rights.
- Rights on automated decision-making — we do not use automated decision-making to make legally or similarly significant decisions about consumers; if adopted, required disclosures and opt-outs will be provided.
9.2 EEA & UK Residents (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Green Door Industries LLC is the controller of personal data processed through the Platform. We process personal data on these legal bases: performance of a contract (your account and listings); legitimate interests (running, securing, and improving the Platform, balanced against your rights); legal obligation (compliance and recordkeeping); and consent (certain communications, and the voluntary special-category self-identification described in Section 4). You may withdraw consent at any time.
We process data in the United States. Where we transfer EEA/UK personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum). To exercise these rights, contact Section 12; we respond within one month (extendable by two further months for complex requests, with notice).
- Access — confirmation we process your data, and a copy of it.
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — request deletion (“right to be forgotten”), subject to exceptions.
- Restriction — limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format.
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, at any time.
- Complain — lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO).
10. Children’s Privacy
The Green Door is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 in violation of COPPA. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International Users
We operate in the United States. If you access the Platform from outside the U.S., your information will be processed in the U.S. as described above.
12. Changes & How to Contact Us
We may update this Policy and will revise the “Last Updated” date; material changes will be announced on the Platform. For privacy questions or rights requests, contact: privacy@greendoorindustries.com.
